Additional Details
1696 William III Halfpenny.  KM.111. S.6599, the much rarer 3rd type of 1696 Irish halfpenny.  7.06 g., 26 mm.  Distinctive crude undraped bust of William III rt, which only appears on this date.  Around, GVLIELMVS . III / DEI . GRATIA.  Rx. Crowned harp of 13 strings divides date 16  96.  Around, MAG . BR . FRA . ET . HIB . REX.  Edge grained rt. The exact same dies as the S.6599 1696 halfpenny photographed in the Spink Cat, 2015 edition, p. 195.

A rare and interesting coin.  Among the regular copper issues of the 1600's, only the 1687 is rarer, in all grades, other than some gun money coppers.  Good Very Fine, w an attractive green patina, somewhat glossy surfaces in part, legends all well struck and defined, diagnostic weaknesses in the bust and harp.  Although the harp strings on this piece may be counted, the harp strings on the plate piece in the Spink cat, may not be counted, even though that piece is a higher grade.  $1800.
